What is Hermes Agent?

Hermes Agent is an open-source (MIT) autonomous AI agent released in February 2026 by Nous Research, the Silicon Valley lab behind the Hermes, Nomos and Psyche models. Unlike a chatbot wrapper, it ships a learning loop: a three-layer memory records your decisions and preferences, retrieves only what is relevant, and periodically consolidates repeated workflows into reusable Skills, so the agent gets more capable the more you use it. Persistent cross-session memory is built on FTS5 and Honcho. It is model-agnostic — drive it with 200+ models through OpenRouter, OpenAI, Claude, GLM, Kimi, MiniMax or local models with no vendor lock-in — and it can operate the mouse and keyboard, call tools, plan multi-step tasks and automate a real browser. Install with one command on Linux, macOS, WSL2/Windows, run it in a CLI, an open-source Tauri/Rust/React desktop app, on a VPS/GPU/serverless, or remotely via Telegram. It went viral quickly on GitHub and is especially popular for cross-border e-commerce, where teams use it for always-on competitor and ASIN research, review analysis, listing copy, product imagery and multi-agent workflows.
