What is REA?

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) is a free, open-source (MIT) MCP server that lets AI agents inspect applications without their source code. It connects Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and other agents to tools for analyzing native binaries, JavaScript and Electron apps, .NET assemblies, Android APKs, websites, firmware and more — returning pseudocode, assembly, modules, imports, evidence and limitations behind each conclusion. Ask your agent to understand how a feature in any app works, show the evidence, and build a similar version for your own project. Deep native analysis uses Hopper, Ghidra or IDA; static JavaScript and .NET inspection work without a native engine. All analysis runs locally (nothing is uploaded) and the same tools are available from the terminal via the rea CLI. 65.2K GitHub stars. Setup: npx rea-agents setup; CLI: npm install --global rea-agents.

Pros

  • Understand how any app feature works down to the binary level without source code
  • Supports an unusually wide range of targets (binaries, Electron, .NET, Android, web, firmware)
  • Evidence-backed results with clearly stated limitations
  • Free and open source under MIT with an active community (65.2K stars)
  • Works with all major coding agents via MCP and from the terminal

Cons

  • Deep native analysis requires a paid tool (Hopper, Ghidra or IDA) as a provider
  • Requires Node.js 22+/24+/26+ and npm for setup
  • Best experience assumes familiarity with CLI and agent workflows
  • Results quality depends on the target, provider and the model doing the reconstruction

FAQ

Yes. REA is open source under the MIT license; the MCP server and CLI are free. Deep native analysis optionally uses third-party tools (Hopper, Ghidra or IDA) you already have.
